Unit 22.2 Research

The Good News from Jonathan Quigg on Vimeo.

I like this video as it is wordless but gets its point across just as easily and leaves many things open to interpetation.

Trains from Tim Joiner on Vimeo.

This video uses narration from the interviewee, I believe this to be a useful tool in engaging the audience.

Unit 22.2 Resource Sheet

Actor:
I will be playing the character in the video because I am aware of what shots I need and how I would like the character to act, and to save time and money it would be more helpful to my project if I acted in it.

Video Recording And Playback Equipment:
I will be using my video camera: Hitachi DZHV1074 on the full HD setting- 1080i 60fps.
Because;
I have access to it at all hours so incase something occurs to change the shooting day (maybe footage needs to be reshot) I will still be able to have access to the camera.
I understand all features of my camera so I can adjust them accordingly.

Reflective Writing Task

From the scenarios I can gather ideas as to how to improve future tasks and minimise the probability of mistakes occuring.
In Scenario 1;
The artists turning up late due to a delayed train.
This was a bad experience as it gave me less time to work on footage for the video.
I believe a good idea to prevent this happening again is to allow some time for lateness by arranging to meet elsewhere close to the site such as a cafe some time before filming is due to occur. This will reduce the amount of time wasted due to lateness and allow me to talk through with what I want from the band.

Me not having the extra £20 to pay the studio for the extra time used.
I believe this was also a bad experience as the studio may have refused to give me the extra hour because of this, leaving my video with less footage than intended.
This has taught me to always keep extra money with me on set as I may need it for anything unforeseeable. This will reduce the worry about not being able to buy things needed on set (in case something breaks, don't have it etc.)

The green screen footage being unusable because of low light problems.
I felt this to be a bad experience because I didn't get the result I wanted as the image was too dark to be visually pleasing.
With the green screen I have learnt to keep it in sufficient light for the green effect to be visually pleasing, this will reduce the probability of the footage being unusable. I also believe that if there is no need for it the filming should not filmed with a green screen as if something goes wrong there is nothing to fall back on.

The footage filmed on black turning out very good due to decent lighting.
I believe this to be a good experience because it taught me that lighting helps vastly and a background helps draw attention to the forefront of what is onscreen.
This has taught me to always draw attention to the item using lighting when that is the effect that I want to achieve.

In Scenario 1;
Finding the footage is out of focus.
I believe this to be a bad experience as the footage is not what I intended it to be and does not draw attention that I aimed it to.
I have learnt to practise using anything new before using it on the video I am shooting so I can learn how to properly use it and improve the shots I am getting. I will then understand how to improve the video as I am filming, such as knowing when the camera is in focus.

Pointing the camera at the sun.
This is a bad experience the footage I used is not as I intended it to come out as.
I have learn to not point the camera at the sun as this can darken the other images in the frame, I will always ensure the item I want to highlight is properly lit.
